People sometimes ask why we use Gerber AccuMark instead of one of the newer or cheaper CAD options. The honest answer is that we use it because the factories we work with use it—and because, after thirty years of running production, no other system has matched it for reliability, file portability, and depth of features.
It's the Industry Standard for a Reason
Gerber AccuMark has been the dominant patternmaking, grading, and marker-making platform in the apparel industry for decades. Walk into a serious cutting room anywhere in the world—Miami, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Guangzhou, Dhaka—and you'll find a Gerber operator. That ubiquity matters because your pattern files need to travel.
What AccuMark Does Well
Precision down to the millimeter
Every line, notch, and grade rule is mathematically precise. That precision survives the round trip from your screen to a marker file to an automated cutter, with no drift along the way.
Powerful grading rules
AccuMark's grade rule library is built for real-world production. We can apply standard grades, build custom rules for petite or plus ranges, and grade across half-sizes or specialty fits without fighting the software.
Marker efficiency tools
The integrated marker maker lets us optimize layouts for fabric width, repeat, direction, and even matching for stripes and plaids. Small efficiency gains compound into major fabric savings on production runs.
File portability
Gerber files (.zip with PDS data) are accepted by virtually every contract factory. We can also export to DXF/AAMA for factories that use Lectra, Optitex, or other systems—giving you a clean handoff regardless of where you produce.
Why a 100% Digital Workflow
Some shops still mix paper and digital. We don't. Every pattern we create is built natively in AccuMark, which means:
- Versioning is clean. Every revision is a file, not a stack of paper that gets misplaced.
- Revisions are fast. A change to one piece propagates through grading and markers without redrawing.
- Output is flexible. Need a paper plot for sampling? We can print one. Need a digital file for an overseas factory? Same source.
- Backups are real. Files are versioned and stored, so a flood, fire, or hard drive crash doesn't lose your library.
What It Doesn't Replace
The software is just a tool. It doesn't know how a stretch knit behaves on a circular machine, why a tailored jacket needs more ease at the bicep than the chest, or how to grade a curve so it still flatters a size 18. That's craft, and craft only comes from time on the cutting table.
We use AccuMark to execute the craft with precision. The judgment behind every pattern still comes from four generations of patternmaking experience and decades of factory work.
Bottom Line
If you're going to invest in development, invest in a workflow that travels cleanly to production. Learn more about our digital pattern making services or request a quote on your project.
